I went into my local Post Office yesterday morning to buy a Magazine for a friend. As I was browsing through them I could hear two women chatting about so many to choose from. I spied one lady who I thought I recognised, going up to her I said, "excuse me, but you're Kate's mother I do believe"?. "No sorry, you must have me mixed up with someone else, funny how some people look alike". She then went on to say, "I have come in to buy my favourite Country Living Magazine, oh I do like them, deliciously filled with so many gorgeous things, and I like the continuity of the editions". I replied, " I used to have that one, but so many advertisements in them now". I went on to say about the Columnist Competition, but did not say who I was. "Oh, she said, I dont know too much about that at all, wanting to quickly rush to the counter to pay for it.
Very strange I thought considering she takes the Country Living every month, I wonder - you dont think she is the DARKHORSE one do you?

My daughter returned from her, alas, unsuccessful interview with a copy of Vogue which was a real treat, especially for a bag lady like me!
Mmmm, maybe one of the other competitors?? Or, yes, maybe Darkhorse.
I still think that CL will have ditched the whole thing by now.

I am still getting the mag, eek, only because I paid up front for a year, I notice they have stopped advertising the ir website altogether, gone are the big pages ads. Haven't heard abnother cheap about the comp.
Mum has just cancelled her subscription, they were claiming she wanted to pay yearly on DD, so she got a bit cross with them and cancelled - typical

Kathleen, early on in the year when we Purplecoo's were with Country Living, we readers then who bought the Magazine, had the chance to enter their Columnist Competition by a way of editing a blog. There were some most brilliant writers who edited their blogs to CL, and at first the Editor said that there would be a shortlist for the most gifted writers. The when the announcement came from CL, it was told to us that only three had been chosen for shortlist, not only that but we feel that we had been let down as the three that had been chosen, only managed to do very very few blogs. One of the shortlisted was named DARKHORSE.
We all felt that there were many gifted writers who had been left out of the shortlist, and had indeed wrote many wonderful blogs since the competition had began. Those gifted writer's, many of them are here now at Purplecoo as we have left CL, we could not have done this without the love and support of our very Dear Westerwitch, so we are so thankful to her and her team for this.
Oooh, do hope I have not upset the apple=cart!

Hi Camilla - shows how little people actually know about a magazine they put so much faith into . . .and no we don't know who won yet . . . or do we. I haven't heard - although I am sure I read a snippet somewhere that it was Darkhorse . . .can't be sure though. How is your Husband Camilla - not heard from you for a few days - do email me and let me know how things are.

How funny Camilla, yes, maybe she was of the finalists - or one of the editorial team selling up the magazine! I haven't bought it since the competition debacle, but do browse through it occasionally in the shop! As far as I knew, the winner would start writing for the September edition.
Maybe Darkhorse is being a real darkhorse and is secretly on purple coo under an assumed name! Now that would be naughty, wouldn't it?

I checked out out the CL site the other day and it was deathly quiet - only a couple of blogs a day - not at all the fun we all have on purple. I am locked out of the other site at the moment but am catching up on "blogs I have missed". Hope hubby continues to improve. love mousie
I'd lost touch (and interest) with the CL story but it's fascinating to catch up in so far as there is anything to catch upon.

And you have cheered me up about the weather I think though the late 80's is way too hot for me as I wilt in the heat. My stepson and family live in Erpingham in north Norfolk, do you know it?

The L. Woolf book still awaits that week off that is on its way to me. Might even try to paint during that time. I just have to get myself into the correct mode. (Good natural light, of course. Most of my usual errands taken care of. Some visual puzzle in my mind that I would like to solve on the canvas. Begin. Stop the procrastination. Just begin.)
Hope that you, too, will find the confortable, and inspriring moment to begin a painting. (Like housecleaning, it is always more difficult to begin than to continue.)

I'm glad to hear that others have happy dolls' house memories too. I received mine the year that I was 8, from Santa Claus. My mother was in hospital over Christmas, having given birth to a wee brother who only lived a few days. My dad chose the dolls' house and he couldn't have found a lovlier gift as it provided my sisters and me with hours of distraction during a very difficult year.
Hi again, Camilla. Go and buy that dolls' house now!! One is never too old! Life is short and a dolls' house is a small and innocent pleasure!

thanks for your message in the blog. I know, I haven't blogged for ages. I keep meaning to, but so much else crowds in. The book is going well, sent it off to the publishers about a month ago (with huge relief) but am now finishing off the stuff I should have done before I sent it -- permissions letters, acknowledgements, index (ugh, bibliography, all the boring bits. Have to set to the next one when the girls are back to school in Sept.as it is due in December. And, what is more exciting, going to London on Monday to see a new publisher about ideas. Don't know what she has in mind, so just have to wait and see.
Your picture of the horse and girl was so charming and innocent. Not enough of either of those around I often feel.
Thought of you the other day as we stopped in Walsingham -- arent' you near there?
What a coincidence, I have just seen you had already picked a Jim Daly painting and I had not really noticed his name the last time I was here! So I was recommending an artist you had already discovered; he has done some gorgeous ones hasn't he?

Catching up....it's been ages since I've been able to read your blog, dear Camilla....so relished the chance.
have to say I thought CL might have decided to let the comp drop quietly but no, new column is there this month it seems. I get a subscription for my Mum as she loves it.... But it's met with derision from most country people out here.....nothing to do with the comp, they just don't see it reflects real country life.
